Circles. Spheres. Orbs. Systems, Flow and Energy. A collaboration of colored pencils, watercolor and acrylic paint come together to create a body of work that has been realized after a lifetime in the studio exploring. Layers of color and objects create tension as chaos is attempted to be controlled on the surface of her work. The artist constructs her personal language by using line and shape to encourage the viewer to mindfully stop and consider her messages.
"When approaching the surface of my work, I do so with a very loose concept of the end product. I love to build layers of line, color and texture. Within the interactions between these elements of art, energy is created. Working in a variety of medium, I employ many different techniques of direct mark making and indirect methods in order to create visual texture. I am often surprised by the completed piece of art." explains Ms. Laine.
Ms. Laine's work is constantly evolving, but vibrant colors and dramatic lines are always present. Colors are mixed intuitively, leaving behind the scholarly ways of the past. Every piece is a new discovery in color study. Every mark is an out flow of her personal energy to the painting surface. The presence of circles and orbs seem to suggest they represent collections of interacting earthly souls.
